The x86 microprocessor from Intel has powered most laptop and desktop machines for decades. The processors in most phones and small gadgets, however, are designed by ARM, and are fundamentally different. This talk will cover some of the history on how the computer world came to be the way it is, how business objectives compete with technological concerns, and how the world of computing will evolve in the coming years.
