NYSG Orbit Fellowship
NYSG Orbit Fellowships are competitively awarded up to $15,000 in research fellowship(s) to students who are underrepresented minorities in STEM working on undergraduate or graduate research projects.
The intent of this fellowship is to support historically underrepresented minorities who have not otherwise had the opportunity to work on NASA-related research with a faculty or industry mentor.
Usage of Funds:
Funds may be used for activities that include but are not limited to the following:
Student research mentored by college faculty or professional scientists
Payload space on launch vehicles
Travel to present at scientific conferences or symposia
Participation in training or professional development
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible to apply, fellowship recipients:
Must be United States citizens (US permanent residents are ineligible)
Must be full-time student at accredited colleges/universities within NY State (includes community colleges and technical schools) OR New York State Resident.
Must be an underrepresented minority as defined by NASA
which includes identification in one of the following underrepresented categories: American Indian or Alaska Native, Black or African American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; Female; Hispanic or Latino; or Reported having a Disability (according to the Americans with Disabilities Act).
Must provide a statement of support from a faculty or industry mentor
Must submit a resumè or CV
Application Requirements:
All applications must include the following items in order to be considered:
GPA
Detailed proposal of research of which you are requesting NYSG support for and its relevance to NASA priorities
Resume or CV
Personal statement that exemplifies how this opportunity will impact you professionally
Statement of support from a faculty or industry mentor
