Commercial Crew 2023 Artwork Contest - Submission Deadline

Attention parents, teachers, and students worldwide! It’s that time of year again, and NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) is holding its annual artwork contest to help star-seeking children get engaged with the excitement of space exploration.

Now through Oct. 27, 2022, children ages 4 to 12 years old can submit artwork in four space-related themes. Winning artwork will be selected from three age groups per theme, and first, second, and third place selections will be used to create an out-of-this-world calendar for 2023

Themes:

There are four overarching themes for this year’s competition:

  • Rockets and Spacecraft

  • Living and Working in Space

  • Exploring the Solar System

  • Astronauts

Age Groups:

First, second, and third place winners for each theme will be selected in each of these age groups:

  • 4-6

  • 7-9

  • 10-12

Rules:

  • Kids, NASA wants your original artwork! Children from around the world – including NASA families – are encouraged to submit artwork.

  • Parents are limited to verbal assistance only. (No parental drawings, please.)

  • There is no prescribed artwork form that needs to be used. All mediums are allowable.

  • Participants will take a photo/scan of their artwork suitable for the equivalent of an 8 x 10-inch (20.32 x 25.4 cm) artwork. All photos must be less than 25 Mb and in landscape/horizontal orientation.

  • A photo or scanned copy (JPG, PNG, PDF files only) of the masterpiece should be uploaded into the SciArt submission system. At the submission system portal, select the artwork theme for your entry and complete the electronic submission form. (By clicking this link you are navigating to a third-party website.)

  • Be sure to submit artwork to the correct theme.

  • After submitting the artwork an email will be sent to the person listed as the parent/guardian on the electronic form. This email will have a link to the contest agreement form and must be completed to finalize the entry submission process. Please check all email addresses carefully and avoid using firewalled or 2-step-confirmed email addresses – or we will be unable to email you the agreement form needed to complete your entry.

  • Entries will be judged on originality and theme. You may submit multiple artwork entries (be sure you do them one at a time). Selected entrants can only have one piece of artwork in the calendar.

  • One first place entrant per theme per age group will be showcased in large format in the 2023 Commercial Crew Program Children’s Artwork Calendar. Second place winners per theme per age group will be printed in small form on each month and third place winners per theme per age group will have their artwork printed on the back of the calendar as a collage.

  • All first, second, and third place winners per theme per age group will receive a printed copy of the calendar.

  • Do not wait until the last minute to submit your artwork. The entry form and artwork upload system close automatically at exactly 11:59 p.m. CDT, Oct. 27, 2022. Electronic agreement forms can still be submitted after that time, however.
