A new concept called urban air mobility (UAM) aims to alleviate increased congestion in urban areas by taking travel to the skies. We demonstrated the insufficiency of simply 2D models to accurately represent wind flow through a city, finding that flow patterns are highly dependent upon the specific geometry and respective orientation of the buildings. Detailed models particular to each city will be critical in order to establish safety standards for air taxis and Unmanned Air Vehicles.
