NYSG Faculty Grants for Research
NYSG Faculty Grants for Research are competitively awarded up to $17,500 to faculty at New York Space Grant affiliate institutions to initiate research projects that have significant student involvement in NASA-related research.
The intent of NYSG awards are to attract, recruit and train U.S. citizens, especially women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities, for careers in aerospace science and technology.
The intent of this research initiation program is to create opportunities for faculty at our affiliate institutions to initiate research projects that have significant student involvement in NASA-related research.
Priority will be given to research proposals at schools with high numbers of underrepresented student populations.
*Underrepresented minorities are identified as per the NASA definition which includes identification in one of the following underrepresented categories: American Indian or Alaska Native, Black or African American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; Female; Hispanic or Latino; or Reported having a Disability (according to the Americans with Disabilities Act).
Usage of Funds:
Funds may be used for activities that include but are not limited to the following:
Faculty collaboration with NASA researchers
Payload space on launch vehicles
Research mentor for college undergraduate or graduate students
Travel to present at scientific conferences or symposia
Participation in training or professional development
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible to apply, grant recipients:
Must be full-time faculty member at accredited colleges/universities within NY State (includes community colleges and technical schools), or K-12 STEM teachers (or parent of home-schooled student with an approved individualized home instruction plan – IHIP) within NY State
Must be full-time faculty or staff member at an educational or learning institution (includes museums, educational centers, or other professional institutions) within New York State
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applications must include the following items in order to be considered:
Detailed proposal of research of which you are requesting NYSG support for
Research relevance to NASA priorities
Detailed budget for proposed research
Anticipated number of students directly involved in research
Anticipated number of faculty directly involved in research
Previous NYSG funding
