NYSG Faculty Grants for Curriculum Development

NYSG Faculty Curriculum Development grants are competitively awarded up to $6,000 to faculty at NYSG affiliate institutions to propose K-12 or higher NASA-focused curriculum development program and must demonstrate educational need at the pilot institution.

The intent of NYSG awards are to attract, recruit and train U.S. citizens, especially women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities, for careers in aerospace science and technology

The intent of this curriculum development program is to create opportunities for faculty at affiliate institutions to design NASA-focused curricula for schools with high numbers of underrepresented minority student populations.

Priority will be given to curriculum development programs for schools with high numbers of underrepresented student populations.

*Underrepresented minorities are identified as per the NASA definition which includes identification in one of the following underrepresented categories: American Indian or Alaska Native, Black or African American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; Female; Hispanic or Latino; or Reported having a Disability (according to the Americans with Disabilities Act).

Usage of Funds:

Funds may be used for activities that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ongoing outreach programming

  • Teacher training workshops

  • K-12 educational programming

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to apply, grant recipients:

  • Must be full-time faculty member at accredited colleges/universities within NY State (includes community colleges and technical schools), or K-12 STEM teachers (or parent of home-schooled student with an approved individualized home instruction plan – IHIP) within NY State

  • Must be full-time faculty or staff member at an educational or learning institution (includes museums, educational centers, or other professional institutions) within New York State

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

All applications must include the following items in order to be considered:

  • Detailed proposal of the curriculum development program of which you are requesting NYSG support for

  • Curriculum development program relevance to NASA priorities

  • Detailed description of how a high percentage of underrepresented minorities will be reached through this programming

  • Anticipated number of students directly impacted

  • Rationale for student impact estimate

  • Previous NYSG funding
